Vantage Point?
« on: February 22, 2008, 10:12:50 PM »

Ok, so it was a snowy night here in the Northeast and I was able to make a break for the movies with a friend of mine.  I went to see Vantage Point like a good, serious moviegoer, and man, what an uneven film.  I am curious to see what anyone else thinks--what is your vantage point(bad, I know) on this film.  It has some great moments, but you can almost feel the studio guys wedging their two cents into this one. Overstated throwaway dialogue, unbelievable choices, macho shoulder grabs, polemical dying words, all there to serve their objective of creating boffo entertainment. I think this film could be studied for years as an example of how things can slip so easily from great to good and then even worse in the course of five minutes.

Anyway, I guess its worth seeing if you don't expect too much.

I have to agree. Vantage Point is a prime example of Hollywood "Crap-tacular" entertainment. Not only was it predictable within 20 minutes of the film, but the use of the "rewind" gimmicked tired after the second use.

If you are watching a movie and the majority of fellow viewers are grumbling and laughing about the editing techniques of a movie, you know the movie has a major problem.

Furthermore the premise of the movie itself is just B.S. If William Hurt was supposed to be a Bush-like President, there would be no way in hell that he would even see even a hint of protest in a foreign land, much less be trod through the middle of them. That part of the movie alone made me begin to question the credibility and enjoyability of the movie.

It's amazing what the poobahs of Hollywood can convince themselves of as being good work.  I agree with Ed.  Vantage Point was just so flawed and obvious it was painful.  Good supporting roles, but the overall plot was just contrived and pretty stupid.  I wonder how many millions they spent on that one?
